For its Winter 2021 special issue on “Ambiguity”, the peer-reviewed journal On_Culture: The Open Journal for the Study of Culture published a forum centered on David Getsy’s polemical text on “refusing ambiguity” (originally published as part of the 2019 essay “Ten Queer Theses on Abstraction”). Twelve scholars and critics each wrote a short essay in response to Getsy’s text and its claims about the ethics of confronting unfamiliarity or particularity—in art or in persons.
