Jennifer Marine is a second-year doctoral student in the History of Art program working under the direction of Professor Douglas Fordham. She studies nineteenth-century British art, with a focus on late Victorian painting and sculpture. Her research questions center around intersections of the history of science, physics, psychology, materiality, and Victorian art in both England and the British Empire. 

Before arriving at the University of Virginia, Jennifer received her M.A. with distinction from the Courtauld Institute of Art. Her dissertation engaged nineteenth-century ideas of physiological psychology with the materiality of George Frederic Watts’s portraits. She received her B.A from the University of Arizona in 2018 with a double major in Art History and French and a minor in Mathematics, graduating summa cum laude. 

During the 2020-2021 academic year, Jennifer will serve as the elected Academic Chair of the Art History Graduate Association (AHGA).
